Boat crash at Major League Fishing tournament results in three dead


Three people died in a two-boat collision on Alabama‘s Lewis Smith Lake on Wednesday.

Since the crash happened amid the Tackle Warehouse Invitationals, Major League Fishing ended its third day of competition. Professional anglers were competing for the top prize of $115,000.

Joey M. Broom, 58, of Altoona, Alabama, was fatally injured upon impact, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency. The collision threw two more men overboard: John K. Clark, 44, of Cullman, Alabama, and Jeffrey C. Little, 62, of Brandon, Mississippi, who drowned.

“This is a heartbreaking moment for our entire organization,” MLF Executive Vice President and General Manager Kathy Fennel said in a statement. “Our deepest condolences go out to the families and friends of those affected by this tragedy.”
