President Joe Biden has directed the federal government to try to find a way for Texas women to still procure abortions following the state’s passage of a ban on the procedure after six weeks, but he told reporters Friday he “doesn’t know enough” yet to determine whether that will be possible.
“I’m not certain. I was told that there are possibilities within the existing law to have the Justice Department look and see whether are there things that can be done that can limit the independent action of individuals and enforcing a federal system, a state law,” he said in response to a question at the White House on the subject. “I don’t know enough to give you an answer yet. I’ve asked that to be checked.”
