President Joe Biden nominated Shalanda Young Wednesday to serve as the director of the Office of Management and Budget.
Young, who currently serves as the acting OMB director, would be the first black woman to hold that post if confirmed by the Senate. The president also nominated Nani Coloretti to serve as OMB’s deputy director.
Biden previously sought to install Neera Tanden atop OMB but later withdrew her nomination following heavy criticism from Republicans over her past work at the Center for American Progress and attacks against conservative politicians on social media. Some liberals were also critical of her corporate ties and treatment of Bernie Sanders supporters.
