Broadcast television viewership of President Joe Biden’s first address to a joint session of Congress was about half that of his predecessor’s initial speech, early numbers showed.
During the 9 p.m. hour on Wednesday, Biden’s speech drew 11.6 million viewers from ABC News, CBS News, NBC News, and Fox News. About 22.7 million combined viewers watched President Donald Trump’s Feb. 28, 2017, congressional address on the same broadcast networks.
ABC News was in first place for Biden’s speech, with 3.5 million viewers, Deadline reported, citing numbers from Nielsen. CBS News followed with 3.3 million, followed by NBC News’s 3.2 million viewers and Fox News’s 1.6 million.
Univision viewers added 1.08 million to the Biden number, and 884,000 people watched on Telemundo, adding up to 13.5 million for the speech, which started at about 9:10 p.m.
