Bisignano will serve in a new role as IRS CEO while continuing to serve as SSA commissioner.
“Frank is a businessman with an exceptional track record of driving growth and efficiency in the private and now public sector,” Bessent wrote in the announcement on X. “We are pleased that he will bring this expertise to the IRS as we sharpen our focus on collections, privacy, and customer service in order to deliver better outcomes for hardworking Americans.”
Bisignano will report directly to Bessent and oversee all IRS operations. In his appointment to the newly created role, Bisignano can assume leadership at the agency without going through a Senate confirmation process, according to the Wall Street Journal.
