A federal appeals court ruled in favor of allowing President Donald Trump’s “Liberation Day” tariffs to stay in place while it reviews a lower court’s decision to block them.
The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in Washington, D.C., released its ruling on Tuesday, saying it was of “exceptional importance” to have the 11-member court rather than the typical three-judge panel hear the appeal. The hearing is set for July 31.
The appeals court will review the May 28 ruling by a three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of International Trade that determined Trump exceeded his authority by implementing his sweeping tariff agenda through the International Emergency Economic Powers Act. Enacted in 1977, this law grants the president the power to regulate economic transactions
