AOC raises $3M for relief efforts in Houston after volunteering at food bank


Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said she raised more than $3 million while volunteering at a Houston food bank to help Texans hit hard by the extreme cold.

Ocasio-Cortez was joined by Reps. Sylvia Garcia and Sheila Jackson-Lee, both of Texas, to package meals on Saturday morning and talk about ways to help those enduring the winter storm, which knocked out power for millions this week. Many residents still lack clean drinking water.

“Disasters don’t strike everyone equally,” said Ocasio-Cortez. “When you already have so many families across the state and country, that are on the brink, that can’t even afford an emergency to begin with, when you have a disaster like this, it can set people back for years, not just days.”

The lawmakers went door-to-door to talk to people who have been hit by the winter storm, according to KPRC-TV of Houston.
