Anne Frank statue vandalized with ‘Gaza’ graffiti in Amsterdam

A statue of Jewish Holocaust victim Anne Frank in Amsterdam has been vandalized with red “Gaza” graffiti.

Photos posted to X on Tuesday show “Gaza” painted in red on the base of the monument in Merwedeplein, Amsterdam, near the residence where Frank lived with her family from 1933 to 1942.

The act drew swift condemnation from Dutch officials and Jewish organizations.

“No Palestinian has been helped by smearing [Frank’s] so precious statue,” Mayor Femke Halsema wrote on Instagram. “This young girl, who was so brutally murdered by the Nazis at the age of 15, reminds us and our city every day of humanity and gentleness, in the most difficult circumstances,” she wrote. 

“Whoever it was, shame on you! There is no excuse for this,”
