Airbnb has vowed to crack down on members belonging to hate groups “like the Proud Boys” ahead of pro-Trump rallies in Washington, DC, this weekend — by canceling their reservations and banning them from the platform, the company said.
The home-share and vacation rental site has already banned at least one reservation associated with the far-right group — after receiving backlash on Twitter for hosting the person.
The company acted after a public Telegram chat thread run by the Proud Boys made the rounds on social media this week.
In it, an announcement for the “Million MAGA March” was posted, leading one person to say they had an Airbnb if anyone needed a place to crash.
“I rented an apartment through AirBNB walking distance. There is room there for a couple other guys if you are interested message me,” read the message, sent around 11 a.m. EST Tuesday.
“I’m booked 13-15.”
