A Florida woman has been charged with first-degree murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after she shot her terminally ill husband in his hospital room, according to police.

Ellen Gilland, 76, was arrested for allegedly shooting her husband, 77-year-old Jerry Gilland, as he lay dying in a hospital bed in Daytona Beach. Appearing in court on Sunday, Ellen stood quietly as Judge Mary Jolley read the charges against her and denied her bond.

“Based upon the nature of the charge, Ms. Gilland, I am going to hold you no bond on the murder charge and remaining charges,” the judge said, according to Fox 35 Orlando.
