18-year-old student brain dead after shot in head by school safety officer


An 18-year-old student who was shot in the head by a school safety officer is brain dead and is not expected to survive, the woman’s family has confirmed.

Mona Rodriguez, a mother of a five-month-old son, is on life support in the hospital after she was struck by a bullet in the back of the head while she was in a car driving away from Millikan High School in Long Beach, California.

Rodriguez had been in a fight with a 15-year-old girl by the school on Monday afternoon. She then hopped into a car with her brother and the father of her child, Rafeul Chowdhury.

Rodriguez had gotten into a car after the fight with her brother and boyfriend when the officer shot her.Los Angeles Times via Getty Imag

She was then shot leaving the scene. The 20-year-old father and a 16-year old brother are being investigated for their involvement in the incident, police told KTLA.
